Thursday, June 21st is the First Day of Summer - the longest day of the year. (15 Hours, 22 minutes)

Daylight then shortens two minutes every day until the shortest day of the year - December 21st.

Summer Soltice falls on the 21st of June this year. Summer officially begins at 6:53 A.M. CT. This is the farthest north the sun travels - After this date Earth begins to rotate tilting more with the North Pole away from the sun.

Our word Summer is derived from old English and Germanic words “sumor” and sumar”, which means the summer season.

While the heat has already been on locally, we can all still say, “Hurray for Summer 2018, revel in it!”

We’ll enjoy it until Fall begins on Saturday, Sept. 22nd this year!
