Each year, the Homegrown Farm Tour awards grants and scholarships to Washington County farms and students pursuing agri/business careers. The grants are funded by the annual Field Dinner showcasing local meats, cheeses, wines and vegetables.

This year’s Farm Grant awardees are:

$1,000 – Crystal Yarbrough for a chicken brooder and incubator.

$1,000 – FFA Valley of Caledonia School Farm for a tiller.

$1,000 – Forshana Bakes, Lora Bridges to upgrade to a Certified Kitchen.

This year’s County Farm Tour Scholarships go to:

$1,000 – Luke Short who will be studying wildlife management.

$1,000 – Stetson McCoy for AI breeding certification.

Congratulations to all the 2020 award winners! Please visit the free self-guided Homegrown Farm Tour this weekend, Saturday, August 29th, starting at our booth at the Washington County Farmer’s Market where you may pick up your list of participating farms, map and passport. If visitors travel to all 6 locations and get their passport marked, each will get a free beverage at the last stop - Edg Clif Farms and Winery.

This year, instead of a sit-down dinner, the organizers are selling picnic baskets with a full fried chicken dinner for two. Dinners may pick up their basket at Edg Clif at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29th and sit at socially-distanced tables under the pavilion, spread your dinner out on the grass or take your basket with you. Baskets for two are $80 and are selling fast! If you’d like to reserve a Farm Tour picnic basket call Debby at 438-8555.
