Chase Glore, a Senior of this year’s graduating class at Potosi High School, has been named the 36th recipient of the $6000 Marvin Boyer Memorial Scholarship. Chase is the son of Candida and Jody Glore of Mineral Point.

To date, $197,000.00 has been awarded to Potosi seniors to further their education at one of the four Missouri State Universities.

Chase has chosen to attend the University of Missouri St. Louis. Chase is the 17th recipient to receive $6000.00 which was increased from $5000.00 twenty years ago by the generous Boyer Perpetual Charitable Trust to account for the increasing costs of a college education.

Chase is planning to major in music and hopes to become a college music professor. Chase has been very active in many choir competitions and musical competitions during his four years of high school.

His awards and accomplishments are far too numerous to list here, but suffice it to say he provided three pages of awards, honors, volunteer work and activities that he has won and participated in over his four years at Potosi High School. To list a few, these would include: All District Choir, All State Choir, All Conference Choir, Gold at State for his solo and Gold at State for Percussion Ensemble. Of course, he was a member of the National Honor Society and on High Honor Roll in addition to participating in musicals, speech team, marching band, yearbook editor, drum major and color guard.

“The Boyer Scholarship Committee is very proud to add Chase as its 36th recipient and we know he will make the Boyer Family proud as he continues to strive for excellence in his life and in his academic career at the University of Missouri St. Louis,” said Committee Chair John Mowry.

The Marvin Boyer children, Robert Boyer of California, Marvin Boyer, Jr., of Pennsylvania, Rita Boyer Fields of California and Marguerite Boyer Wilson of Washington, set up this scholarship as a way to honor the memory of their father, Marvin Boyer, who was a local businessman here in Potosi for many years before his death in 1978. He also served on the Potosi R-3 Board of Education from 1953 to 1959 and was very much aware of how important and expensive a college education can be.

His children have honored him by setting up this perpetual, charitable trust and each year a committee chosen by the Boyer Family, selects a Potosi High School Senior, who plans to attend one of the University of Missouri schools, to receive this prestigious scholarship. The Boyer Family is very proud that their financial assistance is helping local young people get a good foundation to help start their education with this financial assistance.

Chase and his family were honored at a Banquet on Saturday evening, April 23, at the Pasta House in Farmington. The Banquet is also paid for by the Boyer Trust and John Mowry, who chairs the scholarship committee, presented the award to Chase at this time. John’s wife, Lou, has served as the Banquet Planner for the last 36 years and does an excellent job, planning a menu that includes 24 oz. rib steaks and stunning table decorations. “Thank you Lou, for the outstanding job you do every year,” said the committee. Robert Boyer, who set up the trust, was also honored for reaching his 91st birthday the week prior. He owns multiple quick shops in San Diego and Las Vegas. What a wonderful way for this family to honor their father by ‘paying it forward’.

“Congratulations to Chase from the Boyer Family and from all the scholarship committee. We know that he will do well in college and will uphold the high traditions of this award,” Mowry concluded.
