Charles Ivan Bowles, known by all as Ivan, was born January 21, 1940 in Potosi, a son to the late, Charles Bowles and Edna (Head) Bowles. Ivan departed this life Monday, February 14, 2022 having reached the age of 82 years and 24 days.
On June 24, 1978, Ivan was united in marriage to the late Wilma Lois Bowles and together they shared many wonderful memories with family and friends. Wilma preceded Ivan in death on September 12, 2007.
Ivan is survived by his daughters, Debra “Debbie” Lewis and husband Eddie of Mineral Point, Donna Henry and husband Edward of Mineral Point, Shelly Friedt and husband Rick of Potosi, Angela “Angie” Schutz and husband Travis of Potosi; son, Dennis Bowles of Potosi; sisters, Joyce Dodson of Mineral Point, Shirley Davis of Mineral Point; brother, Marvin “Buck” Bowles and wife Rita of Bonne Terre; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear and special friends.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Wilma, Ivan was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Smith; sisters, Gurlean (Raymond) Robinson, Betty (Slim) Dotson, Marple (Danny) Brawley, Carol (Gerald) Large; grandson, Eric Boyer; great grandson, Tanis Smith; daughter –in –law, Susie Bowles; brother-in-law, Leon Dodson and many other relatives.
Ivan had a heart of gold and greeted everyone with open arms and a warm smile. For 58 years, he worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers of Local 513 before retiring. He was proud to be a union worker. He loved people and was very social. He kept everyone in his thoughts and prayers. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. His bible was brightly colored with highlighted scriptures that brought him peace and strength. Throughout his life, his faith never faltered. He loved shooting, fishing, hosting fish fries, and telling jokes, seeing people smile brought him great joy. He absolutely loved his children and he adored his grandchildren. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend. His memory will forever be cherished by those who loved him.
Visitation for Ivan was held Thursday, February 17th from 4 to 8 P.M at Moore Funeral Home in Potosi. Visitation resumed Friday, February 18th from 9 to 10 A.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Potosi.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 18th at 11 A.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Potosi with Pastor Bob Thurman and Bro. Nathan Hinkle officiating.
Burial and final prayers took place at Redbud Memorial Gardens in Potosi. Serving as pallbearers were Jr. Lewis, Marshall Lewis, Jesse Lewis, Drew Bowles, Mack Schutz, Chris Smith, Jared Smith, Kurt Compton and Gary Reed.
All services were under the care and direction of Moore Funeral Home in Potosi.
