The Potosi Fire Protection District has placed a tax levy question on the ballot for the Tuesday, April 5, 2022 Spring Municipal Election.

There will be Board Members and volunteers at the Open House this Sunday to help answer specific questions about the District and the proposed levy on the ballot.

Matt Eaton, Fire Board Member, said, “One thing I’d like people to know is that we’re still operating on the original levy that is nearly 50 years old, approved in 1973.”

“We have multiple fire houses throughout the District and these houses help homeowners and businesses get better insurance rates. This is another expense that has grown over the years. We’re trying to keep them open and working,” said Eaton.

The Board of Directors for the District approved the ballot question and certified it to the Washington County Clerk on Monday, Jan. 24th, 2022.

The proposition has a heading that says “Proposition to Maintain Essential Fire and Rescue Services”. The question on the ballot says “Shall the Board of Directors of the Potosi Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than ten cents per one hundred dollars assessed valuation to provide funds for the support for the District for year 2022, and for an additional ten cents per one hundred dollars assessed valuation for each tax year thereafter until tax year 2026.”

In simple language the District is asking for 10¢ per one hundred dollars assessed valuation for this year, 2022, and then another 10¢ for each year, 2023, 2024, 2025, and finally 2026.

Voters will decide the question at the polls on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022. Plan to vote, make sure your registration is up to date.

The fire volunteers all say they appreciate the continued support of the public.
