Municipal Election • April 5, 2022 - Questions For Voters To Answer

March 25, 2022

Two of the bigger propositions that appear on the Spring Municipal Election ballots for Voters are probably the Kingston K-14 Bond Proposition and the Potosi Fire Protection District Tax Levy Proposition.

The Kingston K-14 question is an opportunity for school district voters to allow the District to refinance bonds to build a new high school gymnasium, as well as fine arts rooms and updating the high school and junior high cafeteria, restrooms and secure entry ways.

The vote does not effect the current tax levy as it is a no cost increase project proposal. The District will be in a position, if the voters approve, to use their bonding capacity to use over 3 million dollars for construction of a new gymnasium, along with Federal ESSER funds to upgrade the cafeteria and ‘D’ building for use and safety.

The Potosi Fire Protection District is asking for a new levy of 10¢ a year for the next five years. The Potosi Fire Board recently held an open house and presented their situation on a live Facebook feed this past Sunday, March 20th.

The discussion included the fact that the Potosi Fire Protection District continues to operate on the original levy that was approved in 1973, some 49 years ago. That levy, at 30¢, is subject to roll back and gave the Fire District 24¢ per $100 assessed valuation this past year.

The Fire District has several trucks and several repairs to be done. Right now, their most used truck is waiting on almost $20,000 worth of repairs.

The Potosi Fire District maintains 5 fire houses that are situated around the District - 313 E. Jefferson in Potosi, Hwy. AA at Shirley, Hwy. 47 at Tiff, Hwy. 21 at Old Mines and Indian Creek off Hwy. 185. Those houses help the insurance ratings for homeowners with home insurance. One of the concerns by the Board is keeping those houses open and equipped.

The Board invited the public to stop by the Fire House on Jefferson Street and visit, budget and expense information is available to be seen, equipment is on display, and answers are available for specific questions.

Another open house was being discussed on Sunday, watch for details.

Voters make the decision and the day is coming quickly - Tuesday, April 5th, 2022. Be sure and vote!
