The Potosi R-3 School District was recognized on Wednesday, March 23rd, at our State Capitol's Fine Arts Day in Jefferson City as the Missouri MAAE Fine Arts District of Distinction.
The Missouri Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) is a non-profit service organization which supports, promotes and advocates for high quality arts education in Missouri.
This annual day of celebration highlights the work in arts education happening throughout the state and recognizes excellence in arts education. During this annual event, Missouri honors award recipients and features student performances throughout the day.
Along with Potosi R-3 Superintendent, those in attendance for the awards ceremony were Keeli Singer, JEMS Art teacher; Jordan Simms & Odell Jackson, JEMS & PHS band directors; Emily Lewis, PHS choir director; Katelyn Papin, PHS theatre director; & Kelly Bethel, PES art teacher.
Nominated by Dr. Jennifer Fisher, Associate Teaching Professor of Art Education at UMSL and former student and educator of Potosi R-3, she had these kind words to say about our school district: “The Potosi R-3 School District has long been a fervent supporter of Fine Arts Education. The award winning programs in instrumental and vocal music, with students often selected for All-District and All-State honors. It employs four former Missouri Art Educator of the Year Award recipients, and staff members who present at statewide conferences and published authors in nationwide arts publications . Their involvement has been heavily supported by district administrators who have provided them with ample preparation time and professional development funding. School board members and district administrators are often seen in attendance at these productions, which amplifies their support and investment in arts education. I am excited at the prospect of my own children receiving a high quality arts education in the district, and I am proud of Potosi R-3's commitment to a vibrant K-12 arts education for all students.”

For these and other reasons, we are pleased to present the 2022 District of Distinction in Fine Arts Education to the Potosi R-3 School District, Alex McCaul, Superintendent.
