2022 SPRING MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN THE BOOKS

The voter turnout was at approximately 14.5%, that is of 13,019 registered voters in Washington County. The day started out wet and bleak, but got better as it went. Voters couldn't use the weather as an excuse as it ended with a beautiful, mostly sunny day.

The Potosi Fire District proposed a tax levy addition that failed by a close margin, 742 - NO and 691 - YES.

The other question that seemed to get a lot of attention was the K-14 School Proposition K.I.D.S. A proposal to refinance general obligation bonds to build a new gym, music and arts rooms as well as update existing facilities. The voters supported that proposition well, with a 2 to 1 margin. 328 voted YES with 190 voting NO.

School Boards were contested races with Kingston voters electing Sheila Sampson 228 and Kevin Missey 152, an unexpired term was won by Jordan Kincaid with 368 votes. Potosi voters kept Rhonda Phares with 617 votes and elected Andy Kincaid with 599; incumbent Dr. Jim Robart Jr. garnered 369 votes. Richwoods school elected Michelle Emily 55 votes, and Ted Barrett with 34 votes.

The municipal part of the election only saw a contest at Mineral Point. Voters elected Matt Wilshire with 20 votes, and Nick Courtois with 19. The Village of Mineral Point also had proposed a 1% sales tax that received 17 YES votes, NO votes were 16.

The public is reminded that all results are unofficial until the election canvass. Typically, canvass will be done by Friday, the week of the election.
