Washington County and the City of Potosi are recognizing April as Child Abuse Awareness Month and are working with the Children’s Division of the 24th Circuit to again highlight the need for adults to protect children.

The Children’s Division of the 24th Circuit are inviting everyone to participate in the 2nd Annual Child Abuse Awareness Parade and Event. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022.

Following the parade, there will be vendors and entertainment, food and fun for children of all ages.

There will be food trucks and vendors set up behind the County Courthouse and in the Towne Square parking lot. The event is planned to go through the day and conclude at 3 p.m.

The theme for the event this year is “Their Fight is Our Fight”.

The color is blue and everyone is encouraged to decorate and are also welcome to participate in the parade.

Several youngsters and staff from the Children’s Division were window painting in ‘Downtown Potosi’ last week to get ready for the event. The schools are also having a ‘Spirit Week’ this week with different themes each day and everyone wearing blue on this Friday, April 22nd.

There is a pin wheel garden that has been started in front of the Courthouse on North Missouri Street. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Potosi’s John Evans Middle School student Beau Litton won an art contest and his design is being used on shirts that are being sold and also given away as prizes.

Everyone is invited to participate and attend as the day highlights the need to protect youngsters everywhere from child abuse, no matter what form.
