The Washington County Sheriff’s Department was involved in a fatal shooting that happened in the early hours of Friday, April 22nd, 2022.

The County Deputies had responded to a trespassing call on Thursday night, April 21st, 2022 at an address on Kingston School Road. The call was made with a report of a trespasser with a firearm.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find Kory Littrell at a neighbor’s home, outside, with a rifle.

The deputies engaged Mr. Littrell and talked to him about the situation and what needed to happen. The conversation with the deputies and Mr. Littrell went on for approximately 5 hours.

Talking between law enforcement and Littrell began at around 10 p.m. on Thursday night and continued until the next morning’s early hours. Mr. Littrell would not put down his rifle and surrender to the authorities. At a point, Littrell raised his weapon and aimed at the deputies. The County law enforcement officers fired at the brandishing of the weapon and Mr. Littrell was fatally wounded.

Sheriff Zach Jacobsen said the investigation of the incident was being handled by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, as he was on scene at Kingston School Road.

Corporal Dallas Thompson, Public Information Officer for M.S.H.P. Troop C, said the investigation was ongoing and is being handled by the Patrol’s Division of Drug & Crime Control. Thompson said that Littrell was from the Richwoods area, and that neighbors had made the initial call about an armed trespasser on their property.

Corporal Thompson said there would be an autopsy and that the investigation would include a detailed log of the events as they transpired.
