Former Missionary To
China Dies In Calif.
Addie May Sloan was born near Caledonia, Mo., on Sept. 19, 1969. She was the oldest daughter of Oliver C. and Rusella Breckenridge Sloan. She passed away in Oakland, Calif. On Feb. 25, 1950. Remains were laid to rest at Chico. Calif. where her sisters Gertrude, Mrs. N. R. Skinner, 520 West 4th Ave., and Ethel both live. Her only surviving brother Gilbert made his home with her at 1138 East 14th St., Oakland. A number of nieces and nephews survive both in Missouri and California.
As a preparation of her work as a Foreign Missionary she attended Bellevue Collegiate Institute, Caledonia, Synodical College, Fulton, and Southern Presbyterian Training School, Clinton, South Carolina.
On Oct. 19, 1896, she left home for Soochow China where she lived her life in China. In April 1938, she was retired by the mission board. She was in the United States at the time. Oakland, Calif. has been her home most of the time since. Nearly 4 years ago she fell and broke her hip and has been a great sufferer since. For the last month her friends have known that the end was near, and her last days were spent in the rest home in Oakland where she would have constant care.
