Announcement has been made that the ImpactLife will conduct the Annual Nancy Higginbotham Memorial Blood Drive as the Kickoff for the 74th Annual County Fair.

This year it is being held the Thurs. before the Fair opens- Thurs., July 28th.

The Blood mobile will again be set up in the Potosi Lions Den, 10367 State Hwy. 185 and presenting donors will receive a Free Pass to attend the Washington County Fair. Hours of operation will be 12:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Thursday, July 28th.

Appointments may be made online at www.bloodcenter.org/grp#11054.

Summer has started. At the temperature rises, so does the need for blood.

Locally, in the Missouri/Illinois blood region, one out of every 10 hospital patients receive blood to survive every two minutes. The demand for blood is increasing by 2 percent a year which calculates to an increase of 5,800 pints of blood each year.

However, you can restore hope to those needing blood by donating at the blood drive. The drive is being held at the Washington County Fair Thurs., July 28th in the Potosi Lions Den from 12:30 - 6:30 P.M.

Giving blood is safe and simple. Sterile needles and supplies are used only once and then safely discarded. The actual donation takes less time than you might think- it only takes about 10 minutes for a skilled technician to complete the blood donation itself.

To become a donor, you must weigh 110 or more and be 17 years old. Sixteen year olds may donate with signed permission form. Those who have previously donated can expedite the process by bringing in their ImpactLife Donor Card. New donors are asked to bring in proper identification, such as a driver’s license.

Your blood donation can help save as many as three persons lives.
