Lillian Inez Essmyer

Lillian Inez Essmyer, a longtime resident of Potosi, was born on November 17, 1925 in Potosi, a daughter to the late John C. Sloan and Ellen (Baker) Sloan. Lillian passed away peacefully on March 21, 2021 in Kansas City where she currently resided, having reached the age of 95 years, 4 months and 4 days.
On September 4, 1948, Lillian was united in marriage to Jerry Essmyer and three daughters were born to this union. Lillian worked for the Missouri University Extension office, Division of Family Services, and with the first Head Start program coordinator in Washington County. She traveled to most of the U.S.A. including Alaska, also Canada, Panama & Caribbean. Lillian was a member of Breton Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years. She also loved horses, singing cowboys, Star Trek, & the NASA space program.
Those who remain to treasure her memory include her three daughters, Sue Essmyer, Bonny (Charles) Holyfield, Cindy (John) Carter; two granddaughters, four great grandchildren, a great-great grandson; sister, Judy (Richard) Heeter; two brothers, Newt Sloan and Larry Sloan.
In addition to her father and mother, Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Essmyer; two brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 11 A.M. at Redbud Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements were respectfully cared for by DeClue Funeral Home.
