Melton Newton Spencer II, also lovingly known to family and friends as “Newt” of Irondale, was born on March 1, 1999 in Fredericktown, a son to Melton Newton Spencer Sr. and June Renee (Sumpter) Gilliam. Newt passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022, having reached the age of twenty-three years, seven months, and nine days.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Casey (Halbert) Spencer; son, Hunter Gilliam; father, Melton Spencer; mother and stepfather, June & Red Gilliam; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe & Nancy Crump; grandparents, Audrey & Joyce Sumpter; brothers-in-law, Joseph Crump (wife, Sarah), and Simon Crump. Newt is also survived by a host of other family and friends.

Newt will be greatly missed by all that love and knew him, especially his family. Newt was a great husband, father, son, grandson, son-in-law, brother, and friend. Newt helped anyone who needed him with a big smile. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife and family.

A visitation was Sunday, October 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. at DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi. Visitation resumed on Monday, October 17th from 9 to 10 a.m.

A funeral service was held Monday, October 17th at 10 a.m., officiated by Pastor Darren Gallaher. Interment followed at Caledonia Methodist Cemetery, in Caledonia.
