M. L. Lewis 79, Dies
In St. Louis Hospital
Marquis Lafayette Lewis, son of James and Emmila Lewis, was born in Washington County Jan. 12, 1861, and died in a St. Louis hospital on Mar. 21, 1950. He was 89 years, 2 months and 9 days of age. He made his home with his daughter Mrs. Jodie Powell of St. Louis. Mr. Lewis was united in Marriage to Margaret Jane Barton on Feb. 25, 1886 and to this union ten children were born. Four preceded him in death; also his wife died August 28, 1935. Those who survive are Mrs. C. M. Sellers, of Boss, Mrs. Jodie Powell and Marvin Lewis of St. Louis, Mrs. Richard Barton, Banner, Eugene Lewis, Potosi, Mrs. E. J. Bennett, Clarksville, 36 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, one brother Wm. Lewis, of St. Louis. He professed a hope in Christ at the age of 72 and united with the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1933.
Funeral services were conducted by Eld. G. W. Hawthorne on Friday, Mar. 24 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the family lot in Barton cemetery in Dent County under direction of Sparks Funeral Home.
