Merry Christmas Santa Has Arrived!

It was a full week of activities with the Potosi Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 1st, then Hang A Prayer - Light Up The Square & Santa’s Moonlight Madness on Friday, Dec. 2nd; then the Potosi Elks #2218 Christmas Charity Auction on Saturday, Dec. 3rd.
The Christmas Parade was great! Everyone made a wonderful effort and the participation was amazing.
The comments up and down High Street were ‘Wonderful’ and ‘Amazing’ and ‘It just kept coming!’.
The winners for the Potosi Christmas Parade were divided in to two categories - Commercial and Civic.
The Civic winners were St. James Catholic Church in first; Hopewell Church of God was second; and Potosi 1st Assembly of God was third.
The Commercial winners were Washington County Memorial Hospital in first place; Great Mines Health Center in second and Purcell Tire Company in third.
Lots and lots of businesses participated as well as civic groups and organizations. There were trucks and cars, trailers and more decorated with lights and music and people. The Christmas season was well represented and the theme of the parade was ‘The Lights of Christmas’ with lights everywhere!
Santa was escorted by a huge collection of folks ready to celebrate the season. The jolly old elf closed out the parade line up and was welcomed by hundreds of kids (of all ages).
Thanks was expressed by the City of Potosi and the Chamber for all those that participated, it was a wonderful night. A big thank you to the City Police for ‘all hands on deck’ to control the streets and traffic during the event.
The Hang-A-Prayer evening didn’t have a big crowd, but it did have some big wind. The temperature dropped and it was definitely ‘Christmas weather’.
The wind and cold couldn’t keep those in attendance from having a wonderful time and celebrating the reason for the season.
Music filled the air and the evening again was a joy for those who braved the night out. Pastor Gary Greenlee hosted the service and led the group in prayer and song.
When those gathered sang ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’, he appeared in the bell tower of the County Courthouse!
Santa visited the shops and stores downtown and made it back to the Towne Square for the tree lighting.
The lights came on and looked beautiful, thanks, in big part, to County Clerk Jenny Allen and her staff and volunteers.
On Saturday, the Potosi Elks hosted their Annual Christmas Charity Auction and had great attendance and support again. The community and area are great to donate and support the program that buys coats, clothes and shoes for kids.
Merry Christmas to all! As we celebrate, remember why we celebrate. It is a joyful time that marks the birth of Christ and his life that gives us all the opportunity for redemption.
