Clarence Eugene Thomas, Sr.

Clarence Eugene Thomas Sr. also lovingly known by family and friends as “Gene” was born on January 8, 1940 in Leadington, a son of the late Clarence Elmo Thomas and the late Virginia Marie (Franklin) Thomas. Gene departed this life on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 83.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife, Janet Thomas; three children: Gene Thomas Jr. (wife, Debbie), Becky Marler and Clyde Thomas (wife, Tammy); daughter-in-law, Chris Thomas; nine grandchildren: Jeremy (Laura) Marler, Melanie (Brandon) Warren, Melissa Marler, Megan (Josh) Lynch, Ashlee (Tony) Carver, Kaitlyn (Richard) Ide, Garrett Thomas and Jennifer, Hayley (Lee) Berkbuegler and Alison Thomas; a host of great grandchildren; three siblings: Jerry (Diane) Thomas, Suzy Thomas and Tommy Thomas. Gene is also survived by many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his father and mother, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dean Thomas; grandson, Jason Marler and great grandchildren: Josh Marler and baby Carver twins; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Lovell and Marie Petty; and many other dear relatives.
On February 7, 1959 Gene was united in marriage to Janet Petty and they shared 64 years of life and love together. Gene served in on both the Esther and Flat River Fire Departments for approximately 21 years. In addition, Gene owned and operated Gene Thomas Auto Shop from 1991 until 2023. He specialized in auto mechanics and auto detailing. Gene loved cleaning his cars and always kept immaculate vehicles. Some of Gene's favorite times were spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies. He always enjoyed going fishing and taking the grandkids with him. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation was held Thursday, February 9th, 2023 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Harvest Christian Centre, 1925 Highway 32 West, Park Hills, MO. 63601. A Firefighters Ceremony was held at 7 P.M. Thursday evening presented by the Ozark Firefighters Association. Visitation resumed Friday from 9 to 11 A.M.
A Funeral Service was held Friday, February 10th at 11 A.M. at Harvest Christian Centre. Pastor Dwight Jones officiated, assisted by Pastor Gary Petty. Gene received full military honors presented by the United States Navy.
Interment followed at Hillview Memorial Gardens, Farmington. DeClue Funeral Home was honored to have served and ministered to the family and friends of Gene Thomas.
