Melvin Edward Pruitt

Melvin Edward Pruitt of St. Clair was born on September 21, 1929 in Cadet, a son of the late Edward Pruitt and the late Lila Beiler. Melvin passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 having reached the age of ninety-one years, one month and nineteen days.

In addition to his father and mother, Melvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary Mae (DeClue) Pruitt; second wife, Eileen (Rulo) Pruitt; son, Marvin Pruitt; son-in-law, John Stevens; two sisters, Ruby Cain and Shirley Sanders; brothers-in-law, Roscoe Cain and Frank Sanders.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include ten children, George DeClue and wife Nancy, Kathy Stevens, Yvonne Heller, Pete Pruitt and friend Diane Boyer, Peg Thurmond and husband Ben, Eddie Pruitt and wife Becky, Michelle Thurmond and husband Gary, Jerry Pruitt, Stacey Roussin, and Randy Rulo and wife Hallie; and sister-in-law Jackie Pruitt. Melvin is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Melvin proudly served in the United States Army from July 25, 1951 through June 2, 1953. Melvin was a soft hearted gentleman. He loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them. Melvin was an animal lover. The animal didn’t have to be his for Melvin to feed it. He loved all of them.

Visitation was held on Thursday, November 12th from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at DeClue Funeral Home. Pastor Dwight Jones officiated the service. Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Melvin received full military honors presented by the United States Army and VFW Post 6996.

Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
