Harry Leroy Harter

Harry Leroy Harter, born on December 13, 1937 in Ste. Genevieve, departed this life on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at his home. He was a remarkable man whose legacy is carved into the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
The son of the late Henry H. Harter and Mildred Lalumondiere, Harry's early life instilled in him a profound sense of independence and a steadfast work ethic. He devoted himself loyally to his role at Ford Motor Company, where he ultimately retired after years of dedicated service. His commitment extended beyond the workplace; he proudly served in the United States Army from November 16, 1961, until November 15, 1963, and continued his service in the Army Reserves. 
On July 15, 1967, Harry was united in marriage to Linda Nipper and they shared 54 years of life and love together. Harry’s passions were many. He cherished the tranquil moments spent in the great outdoors, hunting and fishing. His love for classic cars showcased his appreciation for craftsmanship, with his vehicles including a 1968 El Camino, a 1928 Model A, and a spectacular 1981 Corvette among his collection. Harry was a tinkerer; he enjoyed working on engines of all varieties.
A testament to his loving companionship, Harry found joy in bird watching alongside his wife, Linda. Their shared moments were made even more precious through their time spent quilting together, weaving love into every stitch. The warmth of their bond was a light that will forever shine in the memories of their family.
Harry leaves a beautiful legacy through his three children, Letta Smith (husband, Jerry), Dawnetta Harter, and Darrick Harter (wife, Heather). He proudly embraced his role as a grandfather to seven grandchildren, Justin Smith (wife, Laura), Larissa Smith and fiance Dylan Helms, Kaitlynn Wharton (husband, Cloud), Peyton Benfield, Andrew Daily, Anthony Harter, and Aiden Harter. Harry was also a beloved great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, Arianna, Morgan, and Allanna.
He is also survived by seven siblings, Shirley (Melvin) Lipp, Betty Wilson, Cindy (Dennis) Herman, Kimberly (Bill) Brakeville, Sandy (Loren) Eggemeyer, Donald (Pamela) Harter, and Dennis (Montana) Harter; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and countless nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Linda Harter, along with two siblings, Eugene Harter and Sharlene Mathes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alonzo and Hazel Nipper; and many other beloved family members.
A funeral service was held at DeClue Funeral Home on Sunday, November 10th at 2 P.M. Burial took place in Palmer Cemetery. Honoring Harry by serving as pallbearers were Aiden Harter, Anthony Harter, Andrew Daily, Peyton Benfield, Justin Smith, Cloud Wharton, and Dylan Helms.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeClue Funeral Home.
