Sylvester Phillip Skaggs

Sylvester Phillip Skaggs, affectionately known as Phil, was born on October 15, 1948, to the late James Skaggs and Myrtle Louise (Emily) Skaggs. He peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.
Phil was a devoted family man who prioritized his loved ones above all else. Phil is survived by his two children: Sherry (Michele) Sebourn and Michael (Angela) Skaggs; his granddaughter Samantha Edmond and his four great-grandchildren: Kodi Humphrey, Kinzley Humphrey, Leo Humphrey, and Sylvie Knott. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will all miss him.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Paula (Shahan) Skaggs, and grandsons Shawn and Kodi Humphrey; his four siblings: Raymond Skaggs, Abraham "Sonny" Skaggs, Eddie Skaggs, and Leon Skaggs.
Phil was not only dedicated to his family but also to his work ethic. He was known as a hard and diligent worker, inspiring those around him through his perseverance and determination. He loved fishing and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Phil was also a frequent visitor of local auctions and flea markets, sharing these experiences with Paula and his children. He was described as a good storyteller, captivating friends and family with tales.
In remembrance of Phil’s life, friends were invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at DeClue Funeral Home, located at 301 E High Street, Potosi, MO 63664. Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Sylvester Phillip Skaggs will be remembered not just for his hard work and love for family but also for the joy and laughter he brought to all who knew him. His memory will be forever cherished. DeClue Funeral Home was respectfully entrusted with Phil's funeral arrangements.
