Lawrence Edward Dunlap

Lawrence Edward Dunlap of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Potosi, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 having reached the age of ninety-five years, nine months, and twenty-nine days. Lawrence was born on November 25, 1924 in Treece, Kansas, a son of the late John Dwight and Ethel Pearl (Jarvis) Dunlap.
On June 1, 1947, Lawrence was united in marriage to Norma Jean Litton and they shared fifty-nine years together. Lawrence was a devoted Christian who served the Lord with gladness. He bravely served his country in the United States Army during WWII from March 5, 1943 to March 6, 1946.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his daughter, Vickie Hatfield and husband Ken; two sisters; Neoma Johnson and Lorene Bertram; two grandsons; Steve Hatfield and wife Jeannette, Mike Hatfield and wife Laurie; also surviving are great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his father and mother, Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean Dunlap on August 23, 2006; brother, Othel Dunlap; an infant sister; sister, Norma Skaggs and great grandson, Ryan Hatfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Lawrence to the Missouri Veterans Home, 2400 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Cape Girardeau, Missouri 63701, ATTN: Kristen Pind. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Visitation was held Saturday, September 26th at DeClue Funeral Home beginning at 1 P.M. A funeral service to honor Lawrence began at 3 P.M., held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel officiated by Elder Leonard Compton.
Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery where Lawrence received full military honors presented by the United States Army and VFW Post 6996.
Funeral services were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
