From the April 20, 1950 Edition... OBITUARY OF MRS. CORA THURMOND

Cora Thurmond (nee Hogan) was born in Washington County, Missouri, on May 15, 1877, and departed this life at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 20 days, at her home in Potosi, April 4, 1950. She was the daughter of James and Rhoda Hogan, both of whom with her five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

September 1896 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Franklin Thurmond who preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1943. To this union ten children were born, six boys, Earl, Oscar, Ben, Bill, Odis and Harry and four girls, Mae, Leona, Nellie and Ruth. Three off these children Nellie, Oscar and Ben also are departed. (Oscar and Ben burned to death when the family residence burned in the early 30s).

While her eldest children were small Mrs. Thurmond united with Reedville Baptist Church and after moving to Potosi transferred her membership to Potosi Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member the rest of her life. Mrs. Thurmond was always loyal in attending church services until age and ill health took such a toll of her strength that she could no longer go. She will long be remembered for her faithfulness and loyalty to her family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Eld. Chester Turner Apr. 6 at First Baptist Church in Potosi assisted by Eld. J.J. Johnson, pastor. Burial was in Potosi Masonic cemetery under direction of Sparks Funeral Home.
