Clarence Smith

Dies in Ferndale, Mich

Clarence L. Smith, a Ferndale, Mich. business man for 30 years, died at 7 p.m., Monday, at his residence, 16226 Hillside drive, Southfield township.

He was the owner of the C.L. Smith and Sons service stations and moving business, 614 West Nine-Mile road. In 1938 he was elected a trustee on the Ferndale Pleasant Ridge board of education.

Mr.Smith was born June 5, 1893 in Missouri, and formerly lived in Ferndale for 17 years. He was a member of Ferndale lodge 506, F. & A.M, a past noble grand of Ferndale lodge 459, IOOF. a member of the Ferndale High Tweleve club and Ferndale lodge 1588, BPOE and past president of the Ferndale Rotary club.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Wessels funeral home, with the Oddfellows in charge, Rev. Chas E. Edinger of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, officiated. The Masons conducted the graveside service at Oakview cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth E.; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Olson of Southfield township: three sons, Ronald and Ralph both of Ferndale and Clarence Jr., at home; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Smith of Potosi, and Six grandchildren.
