From May 7, 1970 Edition... Samuel D. Sloan Final Rites Held

Samuel David Sloan Sr., from DeSoto, passed away May 1, 1970 at the Mineral Area Osteopathic Hospital, Farmington, at the age of 81.

Mr. Sloan, husband of Virgie Sloan was born in Potosi, Dec. 31, 1888. He was the son of John and Mary Catherine (Sparks) Sloan and worked as a mechanic, doing general repairs on cars and machinery.

Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Virgie Sloan; a daughter, Mrs. Louis Schaap, St. Louis; and three sons, Samual D. Sloan Jr., DeSoto; James A. Sloan, Dupont, Colo.; John B. Sloan, DeSoto. 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 2 steps grandsons.

The body lay in state at Mahn Funeral Home until Monday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at which time final rites were conducted at the Funeral Home with Elder Elmer Shults officiating Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery at Potosi.
