Joe “Butch” Maxwell

Joe “Butch” Maxwell of Potosi was born May 17, 1947 in Mineral Point a son to the late Leonard and Alberta (Courtois) Maxwell. Butch departed this life Wednesday, May 12, 2021 having reached the age of 73 years, 11 months and 25 days.

On September 12, 1998, Butch was united in marriage to Thelma (Blankenship) Maxwell and together they were blessed with twenty-two years and many wonderful memories.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Thelma; sons, Shane Maxwell and wife Angel of Park Hills, Allen Maxwell and wife Crystal of Potosi; step son, David Rawe and Kelly Brooks of Cadet; step daughters, Mary Glore and Dan Wilson of Cadet, Marie Wyatt and Bill Cornett of Cuba, Tammy Stark and husband Yancy of Potosi; sisters, Karen Gerdner and husband Carl of Liberty, Sharon Arndt of Potosi; brother, Sammy Maxwell and wife Marsha of Madris, Oregon; sister-in-law, Terry Maxwell; seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalee Rawe and brother, Harold “Kenny” Maxwell.

Butch was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He cherished every moment he spent with his family and always put others before himself. He greeted everyone with a smile and treated them like a close friend. He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visitation for Butch was held Wednesday, May 19th from 4-8 P.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Potosi.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20th at 11 A.M. at Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Wilson officiating.

Burial and final prayers took place at Calvary Cemetery in Potosi. Serving as pallbearers were David Rawe, Shane Maxwell, Allen Maxwell, Roger Glore, Bradley Doss, Dan Wilson and honorary pallbearers, Emmitt Maxwell and Jared Doss.

All services were under the care and direction of Moore Funeral Home in Potosi.
