Potosi Fire Protection District Remembers Dale Franklin, Dedicates House #2 At Shirley

June 30, 2021

The Potosi Fire Protection District recognized the late Dale Franklin on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 by naming the Shirley Firehouse, ‘House #2’ in his memory.

Several representatives of the P.F.P.D. gathered with the Franklin family on the 19th at 2 p.m. at House #2 for a ceremony remembering and recognizing Dale for his years of service and dedication to the community and the fire department.

Dale Franklin joined the Potosi Fire Protection District in 1993. The original House #2 at that time was at the corner of State Highway 8 and State Highway AA, across from Reed Pallet Company.

During the ceremony, the District remembered Dale, “He was instrumental in acquiring the property and securing a sizable donation from Skip Sayers, Sayersbrook Bison Ranch, to build our present House #2 at its present location at 10441 State Highway AA, Potosi. B & C Metal was contracted to build the shell and Dale did all the concrete work and the interior work on the building.”

The District also noted that Dale’s plans were again used for the building that is now their House #5, along with much of the interior work that was done.

The ceremony, on June 19th, was held just over a year from Dale Franklin’s passing, June 15th, 2020. Dale was born on June 17th, 1937 and was married to Janet (Eye) Franklin for almost 63 years.

The couple have two children, Alan Dale and Stephanie, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Janet, Alan Dale and Stephanie were presented plaques to commemorate the day. A sign is being made that will be placed at House 2 on Highway AA.

The members of the Potosi Fire Protection remember Dale fondly and that he was a ‘big part’ of the Department. Fire Chief Roger LaChance said, “His presence is missed and his contributions to this County and this Department will never be forgotten.”
