Michael James Portell

Michael James Portell of Hillsboro was born on June 20, 1982 in Hobart, Oklahoma to the Kiowa Native American Tribe. Michael was grafted into the family of James “Jim” Portell and Connie South on July 4, 1982. He brought more joy and love into their lives than one could ever imagine. Michael passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 having reached the age of 39 years and 7 days.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his dear mother and step father, Connie and Paul Orr; fiancé, Jasmina Tahirovic; two sons, Gabriel and Ajdin; three siblings, Dot, Bruce, and Jessica; and three step siblings, Seanna, Stori, and Arissa. Michael is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, James “Jim” Portell; and his grandparents, Rev. George and Lucille Roberts, Donald Portell, Joe and Helen DeGonia.

Michael was such a special person. He loved St. Louis Cardinals baseball and sports in general, enjoyed attending the stock car races in Pevely enjoyed camping, and four wheeler riding. In years past, Michael liked wood working and was very creative with wood. He previously worked for Home Depot and really enjoyed the time that he worked there. Michael loved going with the South West Indian Ministries to Gallup, New Mexico to the Navaho Indian tribe to do mission work. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 1st from 10:30 a.m, until the time of Mike’s funeral Service at 2 p.m. held at DeClue Funeral Home, 301 East High Street, Potosi.
